5 Random Fun Facts about Funko Pop!

- The 1st ever Funko was the bobblehead of the burger franchise character Big Boy. A Washington native called Mike Becker was a big fan of the Big Boy character and wanted a figurine of him. Becker bought the Big Boy license in 1998 and started making figurines, it was this figurine that launched Becker’s toy venture named Funko at the time
- General Mills cereal characters: Captain Crunch, Count Chocula, and Franken Berry were the first Funko line up. These were the 1st vinyl made characters created for Becker’s line of Wacky Wobblers.
- In 2009 Funko introduced the Pop line, these were cute anime-style dolls of popular superheroes’ from the DC Comics line up. Funko Pops made their debut at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con.
- Fans were initially not interested in these new Pops, and it wasn’t till after Funko attained licensing for Game of Thrones & the Walking dead that these new Pops took off. It so happens, the Pop figures are the company’s most successful line to date.
- As is the norm with collectibles, supply and demand dictate aftermarket prices on Funko Pops! Some Pops sell for thousands of dollars! A Loki figurine from The Avengers that was available only at that the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con sells for over $1000.
